Introduction-What is SEQEXPERT?
SEQEXPERT is an internet accessible intelligent tool composed of an artificial neural network linked
to an expert system that captures the collective corrosion experience to provide qualitative
guidance on interpretation of the Sequential Immersion Test with change in hardness for predicting
the longer term chemical compatibility of elastomers and thermoplastics with an environment.
SEQEXPERT enables:
- Qualitative predictions of compatibility consistent with experience.
- Confidence in interpreting the results so better decisions can be made about potential
material-environment interactions.
- Self-checking of one’s interpretation against the expertise of the collective corrosion
experience as captured by the artificial neural network.
- Expertise to be readily available when a “living” expert is not available.
Use of this intelligent tool requires that the sequential immersion test and hardness test be
properly run so that the important results are extracted correctly. One of the goals of this
tutorial is to provide the necessary background to do so.
This tutorial provides the following:
- a step-by-step procedure for using SEQEXPERT using a real-life example
- a brief overview of the experimental technique for obtaining the needed inputs
- information and guidance on the key experimental and environmental variables of diffusion
and sorption that can influence the results
- description of the experimental results that are needed for running SEQEXPERT
