TUTORIAL ON FINCALC - A COST OF CORROSION ESTIMATOR

Table of Contents
FINCALC (Cost of Corrosion Estimator) FINCALC was developed on the assumption that knowing the relative costs and economic
aspects of alternative approaches to circumventing corrosion is an important part of
the development and implementation of a corrosion related project. In summary, this
estimator calculates the net present value and discounted cash flow
as a function of interest rate. It requires inputs such as project life, initial
testing costs, capital expenditure, periodic costs, and one time costs.
Many such costs can be bundled.
A well-executed project is one that is also cost-effective. The concept is that this tool could
provide the corrosion practitioner with preliminary economic input of which alternatives
should be pursued. Since FINCALC provides a preliminary estimate the relative cost of
corrosion related project alternatives, it might be used as a part of very early stage
planning. Alternatives can be compared by running the estimator for various cases.
Feedback on the usefulness of FINCALC is requested.
