TUTORIAL ON CORCALC (Corrosion Rate Calculator)
David C. Silverman
|
|
Table of Contents
Overview of Tutorial CORCALC has been developed to aid the corrosion practitioner in
transforming laboratory-derived corrosion data into corrosion rates values.
The goals of the tutorials are to provide:
- Background information on and guidelines for using each of the calculators
- Summaries of the limitations and assumptions behind the experimental technique
that can impact interpretation of the laboratory data and calculated corrosion rates
- Appropriate format (units) for the entered data
The calculators that make up CORCALC are:
- Corrosion (penetration) rates calculated from mass loss of rectangular coupons
- Radius change from mass loss of a wire
- Corrosion (penetration) rate as estimated from current density as obtained
from electrochemical measurements
Each of the tutorials can be accessed through the Table of Contents above. Supplemental
information on best laboratory practices for the techniques themselves can be found
in such resources as ASTM Volume 03.02, “Wear and Erosion, Metal Corrosion”;
ASM Handbook Volume 13A, “Corrosion: Fundamentals, Testing, and Protection;
Uhlig’s Corrosion Handbook”, 2nd edition; and the ASTM publication: “Corrosion
Tests and Standards – Application and Interpretation”, 2nd edition.
