SEQEXPERT

Welcome to SEQEXPERT

This artificial neural network integrated with an expert system we have made available on this web page was developed on the assumption that the thought process a corrosion practitioner uses to screen elastomers and possibly some thermoplastics for chemical compatibility with an environment using the Sequential Immersion Test could be captured and codified. The Sequential Immersion Test is described in more detail in the overview section. In summary, it is a two part test in which periodic mass change is obtained while a specimen is immersed in an environment and while it is subsequently dried at the same temperature.

I have two purposes for providing this tool:
(1) to enable you, the user, to gain additional insight into your corrosion problem that you may not already have derived from the results of your testing.
(2) to enable us to learn how well this system screens for degradation of elastomers (and possibly thermoplastics) in a variety of applications in the hope that future improvements can be made to increase the program versatility.

This interactive program is being provided for test purposes only. Under NO circumstances should any materials decisions be made based on the output you receive.

Our request to you is that in addition to providing your name, affiliation, and email address, you use the comment section that will appear with the output to inform us as to the degree of consistency of the prediction with your experience and provide any information that you can on the environments and non-metallic materials tested. Such information will help us to gauge the value of this tool. You are welcome to use the tool as many times as you wish. Please contact us if you have questions.

The information you provide will be held in confidence and will not be shared with any outside parties.
