Welcome to POLEXPERT
POLEXPERT is a web-based tool integrating an artificial neural network with an expert system
for predecting corrosion from cyclic potentiodynamic polarization scans. POLEXPERT was developed
on the assumption that the thought process a corrosion practitioner uses to predict field behavior
from laboratory results could be captured and codified.
We have two purposes for providing this tool:
(1) to enable you, the user, to gain additional insight into the predictions implied by
your cyclic potentiodynamic polarization scans.
(2) to enable us to learn how well this system predicts corrosion for a variety of systems
in the hope that future improvements can be made to increase its versatility.
This interactive program is being provided for test purposes only. Under NO circumstances
should any materials decisions be made based on the output you receive.
My request to you is that in addition to providing your name, affiliation, and email address, you
use the comment section that will appear with the results to inform me as to the degree of consistency
of the prediction with your experience and provide any information that you can on the alloy, environment,
and procedure used to generate the polarization scan. Such information will help us gauge the value of
this tool. You are welcome to use the tool as many times as you wish. Please contact
