Welcome to: CORCALC (The Corrosion Calculator)

Instructions

CORCALC provides the corrosion rate in either mils per year (mpy) or millimeters per year (mm/y) from either of two sources:
  • mass loss experiments using either a flat corrosion coupon or a wire
  • the corrosion current obtained from electrochemical tests such as polarization resistance, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, or Tafel extrapolation
In the section below, you choose which one of the three calculations you wish to make by marking the radio button next to the choice. If you click on one of the highlighted choices, a picture is shown to aid you in your choice. Then click on button labeled "Next" below the selections. You are taken to the page corresponding to the chosen application where you enter input values for the parameters needed. A table of alloy densities and metal atomic weights can be accessed from the appropriate applications if you do not know the values. After you input all appropriate values, click on the button "Calculate" to obtain the corrosion rate. You can repeat this process as many times as you would like once you are in the calculator. Additional information on using this calculator, corrosion coupon testing and obtaining corrosion currents from electrochemical measurements can be found in the Tutorial on CORCALC. Please use the "contact" option tab at the top of this page or click on the e-mail address below if you have any questions.

Materials related decisions cannot be based only on corrosion rate information as provided by this calculator. The user takes full responsibility for all materials decisions related to the information provided by the calculator. The user is cautioned to check all results.

Please select the corrosion rate calculation desired by clicking in the radio button.
Then click on "Enter".
If you make a mistake, click on "Start Over".
